Zero Waste

The mission of all waste services on campus is to manage the various types of waste with sanitary and safe methods that divert materials from the landfill.  Equally important are campus programs that work to reduce the amount of material that could become waste, which improves all environmental outcomes, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and saves money.

What is Zero Waste?

The Zero Waste movement works to keep as much solid waste as possible out of landfills by not making it in the first place and by making better use of what there is.

“Zero Waste: The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of all products, packaging, and materials without burning them and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health.”
